As a graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School, I headed to Denver to study Hotel and Restaurant Management at Metro State University. I managed several top Denver restaurants, including one featuring live opera and exceptional cuisine, before moving into hotel management in Florida. A proud Colorado native, I returned home to Cortez in 2015 and joined The Farm Bistro in early 2016, supporting our community with fresh, farm-to-table dining.

I love volunteering, promoting our local culture, and enjoying all the Southwest has to offer—hiking, biking, paddleboarding, skiing, gardening, and relaxing in our beautiful hot springs. I’m also a proud “Mimi” to my grandson, who loves it here as much as I do.

Hi! My name is Melissa Herrera, formerly Melissa McKinney, I have been involved in the Real Estate industry since 2022, where I started as a Transaction Coordinator for broker owner of Blue Sky Homes and Land, Bill Stanley. Now as a licensed agent I am well prepared to take on the growing industry of Real Estate!

I am a born and raised, fourth generation family member of Montezuma County in Southwest Colorado. Growing up in Montezuma County I am familiar with the area and have numerous connections with people in the community of all different backgrounds. I worked in the service industry in Cortez for 8+ years, which has brought me even more connections with people from right here in the Four Corners, as well as people traveling through to experience this beautiful place we call home. 

From a young age I have been involved in 4-H and FFA, and still volunteer as a superintendent for the program today. The lessons and morals taught to me through these programs over the years, truly resonate with how I live my life today. I love being an active member of the community.  

My interests are very diverse and include cooking/baking (with my husband who is a chef), cake decorating, leathercraft, spending time with my family, hiking, and spoiling my many pets.
